Hello! I'm Samuel Raphael
Outside my 9-to-5, I spend time building side projects and pursuing a deeper walk with God — brick by freedom-empowering, God-led brick.
WORK EXPERIENCE
NLPatent
SunFi
I designed and developed core backend APIs—including product catalog, authentication, and energy reporting—using Python and Django, with deployments managed on AWS.
I onboarded and trained three new team members on the company’s development and product stack, ensuring a smooth transition and ramp-up.
I also led a 3-month project mentoring two interns as we built an internal Slack app for bug reporting.
Additionally, I led a team of two engineers to significantly improve test coverage, raising it to 98% across the codebase.
Code For Africa
I built the first version of a Twitter bot that automated the discovery and debunking of fake news shared on Twitter, using Python, Django, and AWS. The system was capable of processing an average of 120 tweets per minute, significantly accelerating the team’s ability to identify misinformation in real-time.
As a result, the fact-checking team was able to reclaim approximately 40% of their time, which they redirected toward other high-impact initiatives.
Andela
I worked as a full-stack software developer building web services with JavaScript and Python, collaborating effectively with teammates across multiple time zones.
During my time at Andela, I served as an interim Technical Team Lead for one of the apprenticeship teams for a period of 2 months, leading the development of an internal asset management tool using Python to track and manage organizational assets. In this role, I mentored and coached engineers toward becoming a high-performing team, contributed to the software development learning system within the Talent Development space, and onboarded new engineers.
I was actively involved in analyzing business problems, designing innovative solutions, implementing complex features, and leading technical design discussions. I also performed regular code reviews, peer programming sessions, and championed continuous improvement and best practices.
Later, as a Technical Coordinator, I led a pod of developers, supported their growth through weekly 1:1s, provided mentorship and feedback, and ensured they were prepared for the next phase of their fellowship.
I also contributed to the codebase, broke down features for the team, managed stakeholder expectations, and helped shape developers into partner-ready engineers through consistent support and professional development guidance.
Dust & Co., Inc.
I was responsible for designing, planning, and coordinating the development of software solutions tailored to organizational needs. I led the company’s transition to Ruby on Rails for its website, improving development efficiency and maintainability.
Additionally, I spearheaded the creation of an automated project pricing tool, which increased conversion rates by over 20%.
To support the sales team, I also built a lead management and booking application that significantly streamlined their processes.
